Orascom Telecom Names Ziad Shatara As Bangalink’s New CEO

Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH) (ORTE.CA) announced that it has named Ziad Shatara as the new CEO of its unit Banglalink, effective as of 01/01/2013. Shatara will be supervised by Orascom Telecom Chief Executive Ahmed Abou Doma.

Orascom Telecom, the parent company of Banglalink, is a subsidiary of VimpelCom that is the world’s sixth largest telecom group with more than 21.2 core subscribers worldwide.

Shatara with a vast experience in data business at Wind telecom in Italy will take charges of Banglalink in January, Jo Lunder, chief executive officer of VimpelCom said during  a press conference held late Tuesday

Shatara joined Wind Telecommunications in February 2008 as IT Director. Two years later, in 2010, he was appointed to the position of Chief Technology Officer. Prior to joining Wind, Shatara accumulated regional and international experience exceeding 17 years of proficiency in building, running and expanding operations in telecommunications, cellular business, fixed and broadband networks integration technology. He has additional professional expertise in the fields of IT, Customer Service and Retail Operations.

Speaking on the occasion Ziad Shatara reiterated Banglalink’s commitment to its customers and continued to maintain the stance of the company as an aggressive leader. “I have prioritized the development of this company and its employees as my primary goal. I will strive to deliver to our customers affordable state of the art wireless products and services”, said Shatara.

“Our target is to provide state-of-the-art data services in Bangladesh,” said Abou Doma

There had been no CEO in Banglalink since May 2011 when Doma left the operator and joined Orascom as its group CEO.

Orascom Telecom operates GSM networks in Bangladesh (“Banglalink”).
