NTRA Denies Official Increase In Mobile Recharge Cards Prices

by Salma Ayman

The National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has confirmed that what is said about the increase in the prices of the mobile prepaid recharge cards is incorrect, adding that the increase was made by an offer from Vodafone only and not Etisalat and Mobinil.

NTRA added in a statement that Vodafone made an offer for its subscribers to give them free minutes equal to 100% of the card value, with levying an increase of 15% in the price of cards so that EGP 10 card is sold for EGP 11.5 so as to cover the increase in the granted minutes, while the prices of mobile prepaid recharge cards offered by Mobinil and Etisalat did not change.

NTRA has affirmed that no new taxes will be imposed on mobile prepaid recharge cards, calling citizens not to pay more than the value announced and to report violators and greedy traders who exploit Vodafone’s offer to increase their earnings as well as those who sell mobile prepaid recharge cards with higher prices than the announced prices. NTRA stressed that mobile prepaid recharge cards are available in all branches and outlets with the announced prices with no new increase.
