Egypt’s National Theatre celebrated after takings from its production of Layla Min Alf Layla (One of a Thousand Nights) surpassed LE1 million since opening in August.
Attending the celebration were head of the Theatre Art House Fattouh Ahmed, the play crew and an array of artists and critics.
The play’s star, Egyptian actor Yehia El-Fakharany, expressed his happiness with the play’s success, adding that a good play always attracts an audience.
Layla Min Alf Layla, directed here by Mohsen Helmi, is based on the poetry of Egyptian Bayram Al-Tunsi and the music of Egyptian composer Ahmed Sedki.
The crew comprises of Egyptian actress Heba Magdy, singer Mohamed Mohsen, actor Lotfy Labib as well as Diaa Abdelkhalek, Salma Gharib and the National Theatre’s artists.
This is El-Fakharany’s first play since he starred in William Shakespeare’s King Lear in 2001.
Egypt’s iconic theatre recently reopened its doors after a six-year hiatus in December 2014. It was closed in 2008 following a fire that caused considerable damage.
