Mobinil Denies Receiving CPA’s Letter On ‘Misleading Ad’

The Egyptian Company For Mobile Services (Mobinil)-(EMOB.CA) has denied receiving any letters regarding the use of National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority’s (NTRA) data in ‘Misleading Advertising’ as Consumer Protection Agency claimed.
Eng. Ashraf Halim, Vice President of Commercial Sector of Mobinil, said it did not receive any notices regarding the use of reports in advertising whether from Consumer Protection Agency or the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA), pointing out that the company did not mislead the consumer with the published advertising article and did not mean publishing incorrect materials.

He added to Amwal Al Ghad that the company did not add any information extra to the NTRA’s published data, stressing that the company’s performance at the level of networks had improved over the past year, prompting (NTRA) to clarify that in repeated reports over the past year.

Dr. Amr Badawi, the Executive President of the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA), stated that the Egyptian Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) has the right to take any necessary measures against Egyptian Company for Mobile Services – Mobinil (EMOB.CA) as the latter has made use of one of NTRA’s published data in one of its advertising campaign. Mobinil has made use of one of NTRA’s data to show that the mobile operator firm is offering the best services in Egypt.

Dr. Badawi said the CPA thinks of Mobinil’s usage of the published data in its advertising campaign as “misleading Ad”

The NTRA Executive President has told ‘Amwal Al Ghad’ that Mobinil has organized advertising campaign depends a published data attached to a chart saying that it was made by an official organization.

Badawi stressed that Mobinil has misused the data as they were basically collected to maintain the mobile operators’ performance on the level of sound and internet services for the last three months.

He explained that NTRA marks periodically the performance of the three mobile operators in regard to providing services seeking for witnessing more enhancements in some certain areas. He said the operators respond to NTRA’s notes through adding more cellular phone towers.

He noted that the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority had talked with Mobinil in regard to advertising campaign using the published data on NTRA’s website.

NTRA has asked Mobinil to stop using its official data so as not to open the door for further mobile operators to launch advertising campaign for propaganda purposes.

Moreover, Badawi noted that the performance of the three mobile operators vary through the year emphasizing that Mobinil is publishing wrong information, when it uses some parts of NTRA’s reports to reflect its high quality.

He indicated that Mobinil’s services during the last two months have significantly improved , pointing out that the use of data in the form of advertising puts the market in a critical position.

Within the past few days news spread about Consumer Protection Agency intends to investigate with the Egyptian Company for Mobile Services “Mobinil” on the dissemination of misleading advertising about the quality of their services, using incorrect official reports 100%.
