Minister of Higher Education considers development of university admission systems

The Higher Education Ministry is considering taking advantage of the opportunity to work with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) to develop university admission systems in Egypt. These new systems would ensure that high school scores are not the only standards to go by, but skills and the students’ capabilities are also taken into consideration, says minister Al-Sayyed Abdel Khaleq.
During a meeting with Herve Sabourin, director of the AUF’s Middle East regional office on Monday, Abdel Khaleq revealed that a national center would be established to qualify graduates for jobs in cooperation with the AUF.
The two officials tackled several issues, including cooperation in evaluating Egyptian universities, multiple financing sources, the possibility of establishing a joint program in the medical field, as well as other scientific research fields.
Meanwhile, Sabourin reviewed the program drafted by the AUF to assist students in selecting the career that suits their preference, adding that the program will be available on eg.bokrajobs.org, in Egypt, Lebanon and Syria to guide students and provide them with training and employment opportunities.
Sabourin added that universities in Cairo and Alexandria are subscribers of the website and suggest other Egyptian universities have access as well. Abdel Khaleq also highlighted the importance of holding a workshop to introduce the program and its advantages.
