Actor Johnny Depp was welcomed by fans on Tuesday on the opening red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival (CIFF). He spent several minutes posing for selfies with fans and singing autographs right before the opening film, The French period drama Jeanne du Barry, was screened.
In the opening film, Depp plays King Louis XV, which is his first role since his lawsuit against his ex-wife. Stars such as Uma Thurman, Helen Mirren, and Elle Fanning were present during the opening ceremony as well.
Michael Douglas received an honorary Palme d’Or, when the 78-year-old joked about the fact that he is two years older than the festival.
“This means so much to me because there are hundreds of festivals around the world but there’s only one Cannes,” he said about the award.
