Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari says Israel is fearful of the scheduled taking place of the upcoming NAM summit in Tehran as the event is certain to contribute to the Islamic Republic’s power.
“The enhancement of Iran’s power in the region and the world is the main reason behind the fear of the occupying Zionist regime [of Israel] of the (expected) taking place of the Non-Aligned [Movement] summit in Tehran,” Sayyari said on Tuesday.
“Certainly, the Non-Aligned [Movement] summit, with more than 120 of the world’s countries in attendance, will be followed by tremendous influence for our country,” he noted.
The 16th summit of the NAM member states will be held in the Iranian capital from August 26 to 31.
Sayyari asserted that the event is to favorably influence the trend of Iran’s economic and political courses of action and the country’s efforts to resist the global arrogance.
NAM, an international organization with 120 member states and 21 observer countries, is considered to be not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.
NAM’s purpose, as stated in the Havana Declaration of 1979, is to ensure “the national independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of non-aligned countries.”
