Iran needs to lift sanctions if it hopes to reinforcement economic ties with China and that can only come with a successful nuclear deal, according to one analyst told CNBC on Thursday.

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi is expected to gather with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Uzbekistan today.

This meeting came within the framework of the Islamic Republic prepares to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). SCO is a security group made up of Russia, China, India, Pakistan and four Central Asian countries.

Iran’s effort to join SCO doesn’t means that Tehran will enjoy a fine economic relationship with China, Ali Ahmadi an executive fellow at GCSP informed CNBC on Tuesday.

On the other hand, Ahmadi asserted on the necessity of relieving sanctions as Iran sells some oil to China but the relationship between the two countries is unidimensional.

Noteworthy, the U.S. unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear deal in 2018 referred to as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
