Fiorentina to keep Egypt’s Salah Next Season

by Noha Gad

Fiorentina CEO Sandro Mencucci is confident that coach Vincenzo Montella and Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah will remain at the Serie A club next season.

“They are two key elements. Montella said several times he wants to stay, then there will be no problems,” he told Sky News on Friday.

Mencucci also revealed that Salah wants to stay, saying the young Egyptian is idolised in Florence and is at the heart of the squad. “We will have both next year in Florence,” the Viola chief said confidently.

Montella, who was appointed in 2012, is heading Fiorentina’s project to bounce back to the top of Italian football.

He was able to push the team up the table, but they still fall short of the top three spots necessary to qualify for the Champions League.

Salah joined Fiorentina in January on loan from Chelsea, giving the team a much-needed boost.

The flamboyant 22-year-old has since helped the team reach the semi-final of Coppa Italia, where they succumbed to Juventus. The team has also reached the Europa League semi-finals for the first time since 2008.

Fiorentina are reportedly ready to break the bank to cash in the buy-out option, reportedly set at 18 million euros.
