Facebook Inc. temporarily marked many of its users as dead on Friday, in a mysterious snafu the company hasn’t yet explained.
Not even Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg was spared. His profile page had been memorialized, with a note at the top saying “we hope people who love Mark will find comfort in the things others share to remember and celebrate his life.”
Users on the social media network and on Twitter humorously explained that they had survived the digital rapture, and weren’t dead. The company said it resolved the bug.
“For a brief period today, a message meant for memorialized profiles was mistakenly posted to other accounts,” Facebook said in a statement. “This was a terrible error that we have now fixed. We are very sorry that this happened and we worked as quickly as possible to fix it.”
