Much talk has been raised about the wealth of the Egyptian deposed President Hosni Mubarak’s family before and after 2011’s revolution. Some claim the family have bank accounts with huge balances, while others affirm that they are honest and do not own large wealth. No one has ever provided clear information about the volume of wealth of Mubarak family.
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and the presidents of banks consider this issue a secret of customers’ individual information that shall not be declared. However, Tarek Amer, chairman of the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), announced that the value of accounts owned by Mubarak family does not exceed EGP 100 million, which happens to be incorrect.
The family’s lawyer Farid El-Dib has evaded the question about the wealth of the family, affirming that Mubarak has EGP 6 million worth of deposits held by Egyptian banks and does not have any buildings or assets outside the country. El-Dib confirmed that Mubarak’s two sons worked outside the country for for a long time and earned good profits from their own businesses. He wondered how anyone could ask them about their wealth that they acquired by their own efforts for long years.
This difficult question that no one has answered, Amwal Al Ghad now provides accurate information about the wealth of Mubarak’s family with documents that affirm that the family has about EGP one billion worth of deposits held by local banks only.
The documents acquired by Amwal Al Ghad show that Alaa Mohamed Hosni El-Sayed Mubarak, also known as Alaa Mubarak, is NBE’s customer number 00030700 who has 10 balances; five of which are in local currency and the other five are in foreign currency (dollar, euro, sterling and riyal).
The number of Alaa Mubarak’s largest NBE account is 50010813073 which has value of EGP 70 million and its last transaction date is May 22nd, 2008.
Alaa Mubarak also has NBE account number 50000503072 which has value of EGP 10 million, account number 50001103070 worth EGP 10 million and account number 36000003072 worth EGP 2899.
Mubarak’s older son also has a bank account number 01000865359 which has value of EGP 9.9 million and its latest transaction date is August 22nd 2012, which is eight months after the popular overthrow of Hosni Mubarak. Therefore, NBE and Central Bank of Egypt shall give detailed information about this transaction and the public prosecutor shall investigate about it as well.
Alaa Mubarak also has NBE dollar-currency accounts and the largest of which has value of US$ 300,000 and its last transaction date is January 10th, 2011.
