European stock markets moved higher at the open on Tuesday, as investors awaited the Ifo survey on German business confidence and U.S. housing data.
The Stoxx Europe 600 index climbed 0.2% to 313.36, after closing with the biggest one-day loss in September on Monday. Shares of Total SA rose 1.3% after Barclays lifted the oil firm to equal weight from underweight. Shares of Stora Enso lost 1.1% after Credit Suisse cut the pulp-and-paper firm to neutral from outperform.
Among country-specific indexes, France’s CAC 40 index gained 0.5% to 4,191.31, while Germany’s DAX 30 index added 0.3% to 8,661.16. The U.K.’s FTSE 100 index put on 0.2% to 6,572.09.
