European stock markets inched higher at the open on Wednesday as investors waited for U.K. jobless numbers and minutes from the U.S. Federal Reserve’s latest meeting.
The Stoxx Europe 600 index traded 0.1% higher at 334.88, on track for a fourth day in positive territory.
Shares of Credit Agricole SA rose 2.2% after the French bank said it swung to a profit in the fourth quarter. Peugeot SA rallied 8.8% after a well-received earnings report. Among country-specific indexes, the U.K.’s FTSE 100 index inched 0.1% higher to 6,801.44 ahead of the release of Bank of England minutes and the unemployment rate for December, both out at 9:30 a.m. London time, or 4:30 a.m. Eastern Time. France’s CAC 40 index gained 0.1% to 4,336.25 and Germany’s DAX 30 index picked up 0.1% to 9,667.86.
