EU to fund 8 Projects in Mediterranean States, including Egypt’s Alexandria

The European Union and international financial aids organizations will fund eight regional projects to develop Mediterranean Sea states, including Egyptian city of Alexandria, the chairman of Federation of Egyptian Chambers (FEDCOC) said Saturday.

The FEDCOC chairman Ahmed El-Wakeel – who is also the chairman of Alexandria Chamber of Commerce- made these remarks during the conference organised by the chamber with the theme of “Promoting Tourism in Alexandria” held on Saturday.

El-Wakeel noted that the chamber has started actual steps to upgrade Alexandria among the framework of granted aids from cross border cooperation programe within the framework of European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI).

Those projects have been prepared over one year in cooperation with 86 partners from nine South Mediterranean Sea states as well as studying different sectors, suggest developing methods and make executive planes for the projects, El-Wakeel clarified.

The chairman noted that those projects come among more than 30 regional projects within Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce and Industry’s project (ASCAME).

ASCAME encompass 500 commerce chambers in which Alexandria Chamber of Commerce is the first deputy.

El-Wakeel added that the eight projects would be implemented over three years in cooperation with specialized chambers and authorities of  Mediterranean Sea states; Greece, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Tunisia, and Lebanon.

He pointed out that the projects include a project to develop the usage of solar power and converting it into economical achievable projects.

Moreover, through this project Alexandria Chamber of Commerce would be the first chamber to work via solar power, the chairman said.
