Egypt, the world’s largest importer of wheat, purchased around 2.6 million tonnes since the beginning of current fiscal year 2015/16, vice chairman of the state-owned grain purchaser GASC said Monday.
Mamdouh Abdel Fattah further revealed to Amwal Al Ghad that Egypt’s wheat reserves to produce subsided bread is sufficient until early April 2016.
Russia is Egypt’s top wheat supplier since the beginning of FY2015/16, providing 65.89 percent of the country’s wheat imports. Romania ranked second as it has provided 18.5 percent of Egypt’s wheat imports in the current fiscal year.
Additionally, Ukraine and France seized 13.30 percent and 2.31 percent, respectively of Egypt’s wheat imports since the beginning of the current fiscal year 2015/16 Abdel Fattah said.
