Throughout a month, from April 17th to May 17th 2013, the Egyptian National Railways Authority (ENR) lost EGP 2 million on account of the protests transpired on the railways, said Eng. Hussein Zakaria, Chairman of ENR.

The authority, during that period, witnessed protests that occurred 51 times on the railways in different governorates that led to suspending 239 trains at average of 270 minute per a train.

Eng. Zakaria has called on the citizen to keep away from the railways tracks and to follow the valid way of demonstrating; affirming that these losses negatively affect the development work that is being carried out at the present time by the ENR to provide  good services to the citizens.

On the same context, Zakaria elaborated that the authority is studying the procedure of imposing an instant fine on the passengers who break the rules along with the vendors in the stations or the carriages or the jaywalkers. The fine may range between EGYP 25-100, said the chairman, adding that the decision aims to achieve safety and discipline as well and save the passengers from any danger.
