Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Yasser El-Kady is heading to Morocco to attend the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)’s 55th Public Meeting, which will be taking place from 5-10 March 2016.
El-Kady, who presides a delegation from the ministry of communication, will participate in a meeting organized by the world economic forum entitled “Future of the Internet Initiative on Monday 6 March.
The meeting will tackle the world economic forum’s initiative which is related the future of the internet as well as the conversion of Africa into the digital economy. In the frame work of the meeting the minister would showcase Egypt’s vision on the obstacles that face Africa’s conversion to digital economy and how to use the IT tools to achieve that goal.
On the 7th of March, El-kadi will take part in the opening session of ICANN’S third ministerial meeting that includes large number of international tech officials and will discuss number of issues related to the future of the internet.
ICANN is being held at a critical moment in the organization’s history, as the IANA Stewardship Transition nears completion. Stakeholders from around the world will be convening in Marrakech to finalize the proposal that will ultimately transfer stewardship of the IANA functions – key elements of the Internet’s Domain Name System (DNS) – from the United States government over to the global multi-stakeholder community.
