Egypt’s Mersal Foundation has received a funding from the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), its founder Heba Rashed announced on Wednesday.
Rashed did not disclose further details about the amount of the funding the foundation has secured.
The funding will go for supporting the speech therapy sessions, the development of skills, and family counseling for a number of deaf and hearing-impaired children who have had cochlear implants, she added.
Established in 2015, Mersal is a health charity that serves Egyptian and non-Egyptian patients in need on non-discriminatory basis, with strong adherence to the rules of its advanced code of ethics, most prominent of which is protecting patients’ privacy. It has has five branches in Cairo and Alexandria.
The foundation has played an instrumental role after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, as it has contracted and paid for beds in private hospitals or provided oxygen tanks to people in need.
