Cairo Criminal Court ruled on Wednesday to remove Egypt’s former Prime Minister and presidential candidate Ahmed Shafiq from arrival watchlist.
Anadolu Agency quoted a judiciary source saying that the court accepted the former presidential candidate’s petition to remove his name from the list of suspects wanted upon arrival and the travel ban list at Egyptian airports.
Shafiq’s attorney Dina Adly Hussein said that the ruling serves as a permit for Shafiq to return to Egypt, confirming that it’s a final verdict.
Hussien pointed out that the Shafiq lawyers’ group filed a grievance against listing his name in the watchlist last June. The first appeal session was held in 7 August.
Shafiq, former air force chief who served as the last prime minister of Hosni Mubarak, was added to the border watch-list in late August. He faced various accusations over illegitimate land selling and corruption; he was acquitted in 2013 by Cairo Criminal Court.
