Egypt’s Arab Contractors to renovate Cancer Institute building

Egyptian state-owned construction firm, Arab Contractors has been mandated to execute renovation and restoration works at the National Cancer Institute’s building affected by Monday’s blast.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Tuesday mandated the works to the company to immediately start the renovation of the institute so it would resume serving patients in central Cairo soon.

The institute’s building was damaged by an explosion took place shortly after midnight on Monday, killing more than 20 citizens and injuring 47 others.

30 patients, who were receiving treatment at the cancer institute at the time of the explosion, have been transferred to nearby hospitals due to the damage caused by the blast.

A car contained explosives and drove wrong-way to crash into three other cars in front of the building was used in a terrorist operation. The Interior Ministry said the car had been prepared by the Hasm militant group for terror attack elsewhere.
