Egyptian Journalist and Ahram Online’s Founder Hani Shukrallah died on Sunday morning in his home at the age of 69 years old. He also served as editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram Weekly between 1991 and 2005.
The political analyst was born in Cairo in 1950 and grew up in the city to a Coptic Christian family. He studied political science.
Shukrallah was Executive Director of Heikal Foundation for Arab Journalism. He founded and was-co-editor-in-chief of Al-Shorouk daily in 2009, for which he wrote a weekly column.
The late veteran journalist wrote about the Egyptian state as well as political society, political Islam, Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the war on terror, and Iraq.
Moreover, Shukrallah became an advocate of the human rights movement in Egypt during this period and together with Saad Eddin Ibrahim co-founded the Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights (EOFHR) in April 1985, during the presidency of Hosni Mubarak.
