Liverpool and Egyptian star Mohamed Salah bagged a wonderful brace to inspire his side to a 3-0 home victory over Southampton and top the English Premier League scoring charts.
Salah, who joined Liverpool from AS Roma in the close season, became the first Liverpool player to score nine goals in his opening 12 league games, eclipsing Fowler’s tally of eight.
The Egyptian put his side in front in the 31st minute before adding another goal 10 minutes later before Brazil star Coutinho scored Liverpool’s third in the 68th minute.
Receiving the ball from Firminho outside the area, Salah took a touch before hitting a magnificent left-footed curler that left keeper Fraser Forster with no chance to give his side the lead.
Ten minutes later, Salah completed his personal brace after running in behind the Southampton defense to latch onto a silky Coutinho through ball before slotting above advancing keeper Forster from a tight angle to make it two.
The ex-Basel winger, who managed to lead Egypt to the World Cup finals for the first time since 1990, was then substituted with 10 minutes left.
The 25-year-old is now the Premier League top goal-scorer with nine goals in 12 games, one ahead of Machester City strike duo Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
The former Chelsea winger, who is nominated for the 2017 African Player of the Year award, has also four UEFA Champions League goals to his name this season.
