Egypt will host the 12th round of the World Urban Forum (WUF) in November of 2024 According to Egyptian Ambassador to Kenya and Permanent Representative to UN Habitat Wael Nasr El-Din Attia.
According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, the decision was made in Nairobi, Kenya during the first session of the Executive Board of the UN Habitat Programme of 2023.
Attia said that Egypt is keen on ensuring that the WUF highlights the priorities of the developing countries in the field of urban development to go in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
He also said that the WUF will build up on the results of the COP27 held in Egypt in 2022, which discussed urban development and climate change.
According to the WUF’s website, the Forum aims to highlight subjects of rapid urbanisation and its impact on cities, communities, climate change and policies, economies, and the challenges of sustainable urbanisation.
Various representatives of private sectors, international financing institutions, and representatives of state are expected to attend the WUF in Egypt.
The WUF was established in 2001, assembling every two years in a different city.
