Egypt reported 899 new coronavirus cases and 58 deaths on Tuesday, the country’s health ministry said in a statement.
The total infection tally reached 158,174, while the death toll hit 8,696 since the outbreak began domestically in mid-February.
The statement said that 603 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 124,094.
Egypt entered the second wave of the pandemic in the last week of December as it began recording double the number of infections daily, compared to the preceding months.
However, detected daily cases have been varying in the past week.
