Egypt, Kenya partner to enhance water infrastructure, food security

Egypt’s Minister for Water Resources, Irrigation has signed on Monday a bilateral agreement with the Kenyan Minister of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation to enhance water infrastructure and food security in Kenya.

The agreement will pave the way for the development of 10 water pans, 10 groundwater wells in arid, and semi-arid areas, the Lake Victoria region, and a 100-acre model farm, according to Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources statement.

Kenyan Minister Alice Wahome said that “this partnership with the Egyptian government marks a significant milestone in our efforts to address water scarcity and improve food security in Kenya.”

For her part, Hani Sewilam, the Egyptian Minister for Water Resources, also emphasised the importance of this agreement, saying, “…we are delighted to share our technical expertise with our Kenyan counterparts.”
