Chatter About Microsoft’s ‘Secret’ New Browser Abounds

by Amwal Al Ghad English

Tech blogs and news sites have been buzzing over the past several days about Microsoft Corp.’s MSFT, +1.27% alleged development of a new web browser for Windows 10, to be known as “Spartan.”

Websites such as BGR and Neowin have carried what they say are leaked screen shots of the new browser, which BGR said Tuesday would include voice-command features that could allow users to mark sites as favorites or home pages via speech.

Microsoft is set to announce plans for the new browser at a Windows event on Jan. 21, BGR said.

Neowin said Wednesday that Spartan would also likely feature a “share icon” that would make it easier to post website links onto social media.

It would also carry a “reading mode” feature that allows users to see just the text of an article, making it easier to read, Neowin reported.

It also said the new browser would have a “borderless window,” allowing “your content to stretch from edge to edge,” and with no information bar at the bottom of the screen.

Microsoft already offers the Internet Explorer browser, which is either the most popular browser in the U.S. or is second to Google Inc.’s GOOG, -0.17% Chrome, depending on which data you look at.
