CBE: Banks’ Credit Facilities Rise EGP 2.56 Bln In January

Credit facilities offered by banks in Egypt registered EGP 492.2 billion in last January, compared with EGP 489.7 billion last December with an increase of 0.5%, EGP 2.56 billion, Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced.

According to CBE’s latest monthly report, government bodies retreated in lending by 0.9%, EGP 347 million, registering EGP 36.88 billion last January, compared with EGP 37.22 billion at the end of last December; of which local currency loans reached EGP 16.12 billion, compared with EGP 16.84 billion last December and foreign currency loans registered EGP 20.7 billion, compared with EGP 20.3 billion at the end of 2011.

Non-governmental loans and discounts rates rose by 0.64%, EGP 2.9 billion, registering EGP 455.4 billion in last January, compared with EGP 452.5 billion in last December; of which local currency loans reached EGP 331.5 billion, compared with EGP 328.5 billion last December and foreign currency loans registered EGP 123.8 billion last January, compared with EGP 123.9 billion at the end of 2011.
