Egypt has signed four new gold exploration contracts with Canadian miner Barrick Gold Corp, Ministry of Oil said in a statement on Monday.
The contracts will see Barrick Gold Corp exploring for gold for the first time in Egypt across 19 new blocks in the Eastern Desert with investments estimated at around $8.8 million.
Khaled Al-Sheshtawy, chairman of the state-run Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA), signed an agreement with Joel Holliday – SVP Global Exploration at Barrick Gold Corporation, through a videoconference.
Barrick Gold Corporation is the one of the largest pure gold mining companies in the world, principally engaged in the production and sale of gold and copper, as well as related activities, such as exploration and mine development. The company gold mines are geographically diversified; they are located in Argentina, Canada, Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Dominican Republic, Mali, Tanzania, and the United States. Its copper mines are located in Zambia, Chile, and Saudi Arabia.
