Canada is to provide Egypt a financing package worth C$50 million (US$38.5 million or 340 million Egyptian pounds), Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr announced Wednesday.

The finance package will go for developing employment qualifications in Aswan Governorate and school feeding of Syrian refugee children and their Egyptian peers, besides improving access to official and unofficial education in six governorates as well as empowering women economically and providing youth with suitable job opportunities.

The minister’s statement came after she had received the Canadian ambassador to Egypt Troy Lulashnuk to discuss bilateral cooperation relations in various fields.

Nasr highlighted the significance of Frankfort scholarships provided annually by the Canadian Government as well as their positive impact on capacity building of governmental staff.

Since the start of cooperation with Egypt in 1976, Canada provided C$1.160 billion equivalent to US$874,128 million in the form of grants, loans, food aid, and importation of goods.

During the meeting, Lulashnuk granted Nasr an honoring medal for being one of the most prominent nine Egyptian women who contributed to sustainable development, within the framework of celebrating forty years of Egyptian-Canadian relations.
