Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has named Tarek Amer, former chairman of the country’s biggest state bank, the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), as the new central bank chief.
This comes after the Egyptian president accepted the resignation of Hisham Ramez, the government said in a statement on Thursday.
Amer is expected to assume his duties as the Egyptian central bank chief on November 27th, 2015 for four-year tenure.
Tarek Hassan Nour El Din Amer has been the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) from 2003 until 2008. Amer joined the CBE with 27 years of banking experience covering a wide array of regions, including the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), Turkey, the Gulf, and Asia.
He Amer has been the Chairman of National Bank of Egypt (NBE) from 2008 until 2013. Amer also served as Chairman of Federation of Egyptian Banks.
Furthermore, he held senior executive positions, leading the corporate finance and investment banking business for Citibank and Bank of America for MENA and the Gulf. In addition, he managed corporate and correspondent banking areas in 15 markets.
He also served as Deputy Chairman of Arab International Bank, Director for National Bank of Egypt (UK) Limited, and Deputy Chairman of Egyptian Banking Institute.
