Egypt reported 40 new coronavirus cases, bringing its total to 576, the country’s health ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
The new cases of the virus are all Egyptians, except for one Jordanian man, who were in contact with other patients, the ministry added.
Egypt also reported 6 new deaths from the flu-like virus, bringing its total to 36, it said.
The six fatalities include five Egyptians aged between 57-78 years and a 73-year-old Italian man. The Egyptian citizens are from Cairo, the Nile Delta city of Damietta, the Upper Egyptian governorate of Menya, and the Suez Canal city of Port Said.
Egypt’s Ministry of Heath has decided to extend the home quarantine period for returnees from abroad to 28 days instead of 14.
The decree also applies to returnees who have recently returned from the umrah pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
