The Egyptian banking sector’s investments in treasury bills dropped 1.5% (EGP 4.1 billion) to reach EGP 257.07 billion at the end of last January, compared to EGP 261.2 billion at the end of 2012, according to the recent report released by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).
The banking sector’s investments in T-bills accounted for 67.3% of the total value of outstanding balances which reached EGP 381.6 billion.
Public-sector banks accounted for 52.7% (EGP 135.6 billion) and private-sector banks accounted for 41% (EGP 106.09 billion) of the value of the banking sector’s investments in T-bills at the end of last January.
Foreign banks accounted for 4.7% (EGP 12.2 billion) and specialized banks accounted for 1.1% (EGP 3 billion) of the value of the banking sector’s investments in T-bills at the end of last January.
