Middle East ride-hailing business Careem announced on Thursday it had launched operations in two more Egyptian cities, Marsa Matrouh and Qena as part of expansion plan to operate nationwide.
Choosing Marsa Matrouh is meant to coincide with the summer season to take advantage of the large number of holidaymakers in the port city.
Meanwhile, launching operations in Qena, which homes a large population of 3 million, comes as part of Careem’s plan to expand presence in Upper Egypt.
The company also looks to expand its operations into Egypt’s anticipated new fourth-generation cities, Careem Egypt’s managing director Wael Abo El-Ela said.
Careem Egypt currently operates in 17 various areas in Egypt, covering main cities as well as Nile Delta, Suez Canal, and Upper Egypt areas, and a Red Sea port. It provides services in Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Mansoura, Tanta, Zagazig, Hurghada, Benha, Damietta, Port Said, Ismailia, Suez, Menya, Assiut, Aswan, Marsa Matrouh, and Qena.
