UAE-based Al Futtaim Group Real Estate is to construct a pedestrian bridge above the Ring Road across from Cairo Festival City with the cost of EGP 10 million(US$ 1.3 million) , Managing Director Mohamed El Mikawi announced Tuesday.
Cairo Festival City is supremely located on the east side of Greater Cairo Ring Road near the districts of Maadi to the south and Heliopolis, Nasr City as well as Mokattam to the west.
Extending 120 meters in length and 3 meters in width, the bridge will be constructed by the Armed Forces Engineering Authority, funded by Al-Futtaim Group Real Estate, and jointly designed by both parties.
The bridge, set to be inaugurated early 2016, will serve citizens working in the area surrounding Cairo Festival City, ensuring their safety in crossing the Ring Road. The bridge features escalators and elevators to aid the process for the sick and elderly.
El Mikawi stated that this project comes as part of firm’s responsibility towards the community and the area in which it operates.
“Construction of the bridge comes as part of the Group’s social responsibility. It will ensure the safety of citizens and facilitate their crossing of the highway in the bustling area surrounding Cairo Festival City, which is otherwise very difficult to cross due to speedy cars.” El Mikawi said.
Al Futtaim Group Real Estate is funding the pedestrian bridge construction to reflect the standards of Cairo Festival City’s project, while the Armed Forces Engineering Authority will design, supervise and construct the bridge.
