The director of rural development at the World Food Programme (WFP), Ithar Khalil, said that a climate change programme will target 500 villages in Upper Egypt.
Agricultural projects that will be implemented as part of the programme will cost some $6 million, Khalil told MENA.
About 150,000 citizens will directly benefit from the projects in the governorates of Luxor, Assiut, Sohag, Qena, and Aswan, she said.
Work is underway to expand in agricultural projects started by the WFP concerning climate change, Khalil added.
She made it clear that they are in the phase of securing funds for the project.
Some 2,000 feddans are being reclaimed every year in the five governorates as part of the project, Khalil further said.
