Solving African woes will be a top priority of Egypt at the United Nations if it wins a non-permanent seat in the UN Security Council in October, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Friday.

Speaking to reporters en route to Egypt from South Sudan where he took part in celebrations of the fourth anniversary of South Sudan Independence, Shoukry said Egypt is keen on supporting African nations in all fields.

Shoukry hailed relations between Egypt and South Sudan, adding Egypt has distinguished ties with South Sudan since its independence.

The Minister said he met, during the visit, with his Kenyan counterpart Amina Mohamed for talks on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation. He added that he held talks with his Ethiopian counterpart on the outcome of a recent tripartite meeting between Egyptian, Sudanese and Ethiopian officials on Ethiopia’s renaissance Dam.

Shoukry said he met with South Sudanese President Salva Kiir and conveyed President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s greetings on the fourth anniversary of South Sudan’s independence.
