In their continued effort to introduce innovative and novel ideas and products to the Egyptian market, Makro has just undertaken the culinary preparation of the world’s largest potato casserole in partnership with Procter and Gamble and under the sponsorship of FAIRY. The casserole, which was 1 meter in diameter, contained 400 kilograms of ingredients. The preparation of the casserole was supervised by Chef Youssry and Sherif Madkour, two of Egypt’s top figures in the gastronomic arena.
The casserole was prepared as part of Makro Egypt’s second anniversary celebration, where customers of the store were invited to enjoy the day and watch the cooking of the casserole. Approximately 10 people participated in the making of the casserole, with the Egyptian Chefs Association aiding in the endeavor. All ingredients used to make the casserole were locally sourced, reflecting Makro’s believe in utilizing local produce in their business, where more than 90% of the products within their stores are also locally sourced.
Commenting on the second anniversary celebration and the casserole, Managing Director of Makro Egypt, Francois Oliver, said “We are proud to have been present in the Egyptian market for the past two years and we look forward to a long and fruitful stay in the country. This casserole was our way of showing our customers that great things can come in big sizes, such as this casserole, or our warehouse stores and wholesale products.”
Since entering the market, Makro Egypt has worked extensively to provide support to its professional customers; ensuring they have everything they need to make their business a success. Makro has recently introduced visa payment and home delivery to their customers as part of a long line of initiatives which will help Egyptians in expanding and growing their businesses.
