by Ghada Ismail

Orange Egypt has announced the  launch of “4G for Everybody” campaign after acquiring its 4G licence in October.  Jean -Marc Harion, CEO of Orange Egypt said the operator will receive 4G frequencies within three months from signing the 4G and a virtual fixed lines licence agreement with NTRA. Orange said it was well prepared to provide 4G services for every customer with a bunch of offers, services and devices.

Orange is offering now double the monthly internet package for customers to try 4G services without any additional cost. The company is also launching before the end of November an affordable 4G smartphone, the Techno N9, at a price of EGP 1199. This step comes with the aim of encouraging users to benefit from 4G services at minimum cost.

In addition, Orange customers who have a smartphone will be able to replace their Sim cards for free in Orange shops while discovering the whole range of 4G devices the company offers. Orange Egypt CEO conducted two 4G experimental video calls, one in Cairo calling the Smart Village and the other in Alexandria, to test the speeds of the new service. The speed test in Garden City, Cairo, resulted in 27 Mbps; the one in Smart Village recorded 90 Mbps.

Orange acquired the 4G license alone for USD 484 million, with 50 percent of its value to be paid in EGP and the remaining 50 percent in USD. The company signed an agreement to finance the acquisition of 4G and virtual fixed lines’ licenses against a loan of EUR 500 million from its principal shareholder, Orange Group.
