Egyptian Minister of communications, Yasser El-Kady and Minister of Investment, Dalia Khorshid signed on Thursday a new agreement to complete the work of the cooperation protocol that was sealed in April 2014. It was signed between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Ministry of Investment aiming to develop and modernise the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) integrated information systems.
Both parties agreed on a three-year extension period for the protocol that is to end now in April 2019. A number of the first protocol’s clauses are completed including the establishment of a website for GAFI which provides services and information for investors and the possibility of establishing companies electronically, thus encouraging investment and creating more opportunities in the country. The website also provides Egypt’s investment map through which investment opportunities in the country are showcased. This offers investors comprehensive information on investment opportunities. A call center has been established in GAFI and an e-portal was launched for Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and SME Development.
Developing and modernizing work systems in GAFI and creating a One-Stop-Shop are expected in the near future in line with the strategic and comprehensive MCIT plan that aims to develop state sectors to improve citizen services drastically, in accordance with international standards. MCIT gives priority to citizens as and believes that access to services in a decent manner is a basic right under the constitution and law.
