Cityscape Egypt: Egypt embraces plan to upgrade 151 unsafe slums

Egypt’s Informal Settlements Development Facility (ISDF) has embraced a national plan to upgrade 151 unsafe slums spread all over Egypt of which 103 shantytowns in Cairo, Ahmed Darwish, Deputy Minister for Urban Renewal and Informal Settlements said Tuesday.

He made those during Cityscape Egypt‘s second discussion session -day I, taking place in Cairo at Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski under the rubric of ‘ The Future of Development: Urbanisation, Regeneration and Partnership’, stressing that all the country’s sectors should work in harmony to solve this complicated problem.

Cityscape Egypt is set to discuss the main feature of the Egyptian government’s future scheme and the updates of mega national projects and real estate regulations.

He added that Egyptian government should work with the private sector to build housing units so as to relocate the shantytowns while removing all the obstacles that face the investors.

ISDF aims to survey the informal settlements nationwide and proposes general policies for the development of unsafe areas and plans for improving slums.
