Cairo’s bourse dropped sharply on Thursday with $1.17bn losses

Egypt’s bourse plunged Thursday with losses worth 9.185 billion Egyptian pounds (US$1.17 billion) on local and foreign sell offs.

Market capitalisation has recorded 385.916  billion pounds during the closing session of Thursday.

Indices

Egypt’s benchmark index, EGX30 edged down 4.11 percent to 5813.72 points.

EGX50 EWI index tumbled 3.14 percent to 1056.31 points.

EGX20 decreased 4.42 percent to 5784.47 points.

On the other hand, the mid- and small-cap index EGX70 went down 1.01 percent to 347.48 points. The price index, EGX100 sagged 1.34 percent 696.4points.

Turnovers low

On Thursday, the bourse’s trading volume hit 180.923 million securities, with turnovers closed at 820.593 billion pounds, exchanged through 23,169 transactions.

Also during the closing session, 176 listed securities have been traded in; 126 declined, 15 advanced; while 27 kept their previous levels.

Investors’ Activities

Local and Arab investors were net sellers Thursday seizing 912.61 percent and 3.33 percent respectively of the total markets, with a net equity of 15.518  million pounds and 438.528 million pounds, respectively, excluding the deals.

On the contrary, foreign investors were net buyers getting 4.07 percent of the total market, with a net equity of 15.956 million pounds, excluding the deals.
