Sweden’s National Anti-Corruption Unit has launched a preliminary investigation into suspected fraud by German car maker Volkswagen AG (VOW.XE) in the wake of its emissions-rigging scandal.
The National Anti-Corruption Unit’s chief prosecutor, Alf Johansson, noted that following approval by the German authority Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt, vehicles fitted with so-called defeat devices that make them appear to meet European emission requirements had been approved for sale in Sweden even though they didn’t meet those requirements.
The investigation will take place in cooperation with foreign authorities. Volkswagen Group Swedish AB said the company will fully cooperate with the investigation.
