ITU launches Smart Irrigation Water Management Project in Egypt

by Administrator

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) intends to initiate cooperation with Egypt’s Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and one of the mobile companies working in the country.

The cooperation aims at providing smart solutions to save water wasted in irrigation practices in Egypt, which could reach 40%.

The new project is to start during the current month, said Ebrahim Al-Haddad, the Regional Director at Arab Regional Office ITU.

It is expected to be spread in other Arab countries when it starts to produce a turnaround in Egypt, he noted.

The ITU official further said the amount of water wasted in Egypt is too high, compared to Israel of 5% only.

It is a highly important project for Egypt, Al-Haddad noted, citing future difficulties Egypt might face with its water share after the completion of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Egypt has won ITU membership for 2015-2018 after re-electing it as African representative with 115 votes.
