Qatari officials declared their willingness to accept a request from the Egyptian government to extend the period of central bank deposit or dollar bonds, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

He added that the Egyptian side put a condition that Qatar must confirm its willingness formally to extend the period of repayment of the deposit, according to daily newspaper AlMasry AlYoum.

Egypt expressed concerns of manipulation from the Qatari side of a formal request to extend the period, the official revealed.

“The Qataris offered to intermediaries, between them and the Egyptian government, to give aid like repayment of farmers’ debts, which exceeds LE4 billion, as an expression of their willingness to open a new page with the Egyptian people, ” the official added.

Egyptian central bank governor Hesham Ramez said on Saturday that $500 million has been paid back to qatar and that it will be followed by $2.5 billion at the beginning of November, according to Reuters.
