TE Eyes to Replace Copper Cables With Fiber in 750 K Line ,2013-End

Telecom Egypt (TE) is aiming to replace copper cables with fiber cables for 750 K-line finalize during the end of this year 2013.

Eng. Mohamed Al-Nawawi, CEO of TE ,has asserted that the plan is divided into many phases starting from 2012, noting that by 2015 TE will replace all the cables with fiber to 4 million lines with $ 1.6 billion total cost.

Al-Nawawi has pointed out in an exclusive to Amwal Al Ghad , that the cables must be replaced in the places which vulnerable to thefts firstly, then the new residential communities and finally the most required regions for services, asserting that TE is targeting to provide appropriate speeds for customers especially in crowded places of companies and business areas like Compound V.

Al-Nawawi, has noted that the slowness of replacement is due to installing of the fiber cables which needed longer time than the copper one, stressing that the replacements will reduce the repeated thefts acts, and thus the cut services which the users are facing.

Profits of TE has boosted to 45.5% in the second quarter of 2013 with revenues growth up 16.1%, TE’s results revealed that the collected net profit reached EGP 896 million($ 128.2 million) in the last 3 months until June 30 demonstrations, compared to 616 million before the same period of the last year.
