Egypt’s telecoms regulator, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) organised a number of awareness seminars for the primary-level students of Egyptian-Japanese Schools in Cairo and Giza, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

The seminars are in line with the state’s policy to expand support for Egyptian-Japanese Schools as a leading experience in the process of developing education. They aim to contribute to preparing a tech-savvy generation capable of using digital services within the digital transformation process witnessed all over Egypt, and to implement joint cooperation frames between NTRA and Egyptian-Japanese Schools.

Furthermore, the seminars are designed to jointly raise teachers’ as well as students’ awareness of several telecom scopes. This is part of plans to raise the societal awareness for all segments of Egypt’s community, particularly youth and children who are deemed among the heaviest users of internet as well as social media platforms and applications.

This series of seminars also sought to raise awareness of cybersecurity basic principles and how to protect e-accounts and devices against penetrations. They also entailed introducing data and information security essentials, including creating strong passwords, two-step verification methods, and the right measures of handling fraud messages, where verbal explanations as well as interactive games were used to make sure students can easily understand the information provided.

Moreover, the seminars encompassed an awareness lecture for parents about NTRA’s role to protect users’ rights, in addition to introducing digital services such as mobile wallets and their importance, and how to escalate telecom complaints. During the seminars, the features and benefits of My NTRA interactive app were reviewed, while the optimum parental control measures and pragmatic steps that should be taken to protect children against the risks of being excessively exposed to electronic games were also identified.

This year, NTRA had organised more than 100 awareness seminars for more than 40,000 organisations and individuals from youth, children, women, elderly and people of determination across 15 governorates nationwide.
