10 Palestinian traditional dishes

Food is considered a prominent factor in any culture, and the Arab world is widely known with its magnificent cuisines spanning from the Atlantic in the west to the Indian ocean in the southeast.
The Palestinian cuisine has some of the most delicious recipes, that like many other things in the Palestinian culture, Israel is attempting to steal.

1. Chakchouka

Palestinian Chakchouka

A delicious breakfast dish made of poached eggs dipped in spicy tomato sauce. The dish is believed to have originated from Tunisia, yet it is eaten throughout the entire MENA region with variations done to the recipe.

2. Falafel

Palestinian Falafel

The iconic protein-packed chickpea bites are a staple of Palestinian cuisine. Enjoyed for breakfast, the dish is believed to have evolved from the Egyptian dish Taameya.

3. Hummus Dip

Palestinian Hummus dip

The iconic hummus dip is now loved by many across the globe. Not much is known about the origins of the dish, but the earliest mention comes from the 13th century in Egypt. It is a loved symbol of Levant food.

4. Baba Ghanouj

Palestinian Baba Ghanouj appetizer

An appetizer which originated in Lebanon. It is made of smoky eggplants which gives it an unforgettable taste.

5. Maqluba

Palestinian Maqluba

The National dish of Palestine, but is also enjoyed in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan. The dish is a flipped upside down before serving. It is garnished with pine nuts and parsley.

6. Qidreh

Palestinian Qidreh

A traditional dish that originated from Al-Khalil city, usually served in the holy month of Ramadan. It consists of meat, cooked with chickpeas and rice in a broth with spices. It is usually served with yogurt sauce and tomato salad.

7. Musakhan

Palestinian Musakhan

An essential dish in Palestinian cuisine that consists of roasted chicken with caramelised onion served on Taboon bread that was dipped in Olive oil.

8. Ka’ak Al-Quds

Palestinian Ka’ak Al-Quds

The Jerusalem ka’ak is coined by Palestinians to be the best made in the whole country. The ka’ak looks like a modern-day bagel, but is baked in centuries-old ovens heated with olive wood. It is usually enjoyed with hummus and zaatar dips.

9. Mansaf

Palestinian Mansaf

One of the National dishes of both Palestine and Jordan, it is the quintessential dish of Bedouins in the country. It is made of flatbread with lamb, toasted nuts, and yogurt on the side.

10. Sfiha

Palestinian Sfiha

A bit related to Lebanon’s Manakish, it is also known as Lahem bi Ajin. It is a heavenly baked flatbread with meat on the top. It is enjoyed in the Levant region.
