Actress Charlize Theron spoke up on Monday about the unjust double standards women over 40 face in Hollywood.
She expressed her hostility to the notion that men “age like fine wines” while women are believed to age like “cut flowers.”
“I also think women want to age in a way that feels right to them,” Theron shared with Allure magazine.
She advocated for empathy in embracing individual journeys, while reflecting on her own experience.
“My face is changing, and I love that my face is changing and ageing.” she said about her evolving beauty.
She talked about her frustration when people assume that any change in her appearance is a result of cosmetic procedures.
“People think I had a face-lift… I’m just ageing! It doesn’t mean I got bad plastic surgery. This is just what happens.” she said.
Theron’s career is rich with diverse roles such as Mad Max: Fury Road, Snow White and the Huntsman, Young Adult, Tully, and Atomic Blonde.
Currently, she has everyone’s eyes on her in the latest Fast and Furious instalment. She has been the face of Dior’s J’Adore Parfum D’eau since 2004.
