Terry in line for speedy Chelsea return after ‘incredible’ recovery

John Terry is in line for a speedy return to the Chelsea squad after making an ‘incredible’ recovery from knee surgery, which was expected to keep him out for up to two months.

The defender picked up the injury after colliding with the post during Chelsea’s FA Cup clash with Portsmouth.

The problem is then thought to have worsened in training before the Champions League tie with Napoli in February, leading the club’s medical staff to opt for surgery.

However, Terry has shaved almost a month off his expected recovery time and has revealed that he was jogging as soon as two days after the operation.

The former England captain has also insisted that overcoming the mental side of the lay-off was an important factor.

‘Once I had the operation, I was literally jogging about after two days, which was incredible,’ he told Chelsea TV.

‘It’s down to getting over it mentally as well, that you’ve had an operation. Once you’re clear of that, you can push yourself on.

‘I said to the physios, the way things were here, I just wanted to push myself and be involved and try to get back as quickly as possible.’
