Governor Of Qatar Central Bank To Steer Chairmanship Of The IFSB For 2013

The Council of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) today resolved to appoint its Chairman and Deputy Chairman for the year 2013. The Governor of Qatar Central Bank , H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Saoud Al-Thani will steer the Chairmanship of the IFSB, while H.E. Dato Mohd Rosli Sabtu, Managing Director of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) was appointed as Deputy Chairman. H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Saoud Al-Thani will take over the helm of the international standard-setting organisation from H.E. Rasheed Al Maraj, of the Central Bank of Bahrain .

The new appointments will take effect on 1 January 2013. The 2013 Annual Meetings of the IFSB will thus be held in Doha, Qatar in April 2013.

Brief profiles of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of IFSB for 2013 are as follows:

H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Saoud Al-Thani was appointed Governor of Qatar Central Bank in May 2006, having started his career in the Bank in 1982. He was Deputy Governor from 1990 to 2001 and subsequently left to serve as Chairman of the State Audit Bureau from 2001-2006, before assuming his current position. His Excellency was appointed as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority in March 2012. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatar Development Bank as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Qatar Investment Authority.

H.E. Dato Mohd Rosli Sabtu was appointed as the first Managing Director of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) in January 2011. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Monetary) at the Ministry of Finance since 2008. In addition to being a Board Member of the AMBD, he also serves as a Board Member of the Brunei Darussalam Deposit Protection Corporation (BDPC), the Sukuk (Brunei) Inc. and the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management Berhad (CIBFM). His Excellency had previously also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Brunei Currency and Monetary Board.
